Barista Champions are coming to Seoul next week to compete for the title of “World Barista Champion,” live on-stage at Cafe Show Seoul. The 2017 World Barista Championship is Title Sponsored by Ediya Coffee, and the competition promises to be full of incredible skill and innovation! Competitors will give intricately detailed, exhaustively rehearsed stage presentations, serving espresso shots, espresso and milk drinks, and wildly inventive signature espresso beverages to a panel of certified judges. This will take place November 9-12, with three rounds of competition. To attend in person, buy tickets here, and if you can’t make it to Seoul, you can join more than 100k online viewers from 120+ countries tuning into the livestream of the event on www.worldbaristachampionship.org.
The World Barista Championship (WBC) competition format is going through an evolution process, with many exciting new changes debuting in Seoul, including the introduction of variable espresso machine temperature settings, thanks to the support of 2015-2017 Qualified Espresso Machine Sponsor Victoria Arduino. Every competitor performs using the same set of tested, qualified equipment, including grinders from Mahlkönig, cleaning products from Cafetto, and calibrated water from Pentair/Everpure.
The World Barista Championship is returning to Asia for the first time since 2007. The competition began as a small competition primarily amongst Denmark, Norway, and a few other Nordic countries, has expanded into a global network of 60+ sanctioned national bodies putting on yearly championships & regional qualifying events, sometimes for fields of 100+ competitors. The coveted World Barista Champion title can be a pathway to global coffee fame, with winners going on to run globally-renowned coffee businesses and ventures.
Korea is one of the world’s most dynamic and exciting coffee markets, and great excitement has been building with local coffee fans and professionals. Thousands of international visitors will be in Seoul to root for their favorite competitors and experience the wonders of Seoul’s coffee culture.
The World Coffee Championships are supported by a dedicated global community of judges, volunteers, sponsors, national bodies, and other partners who come together to create this global coffee stage. Competitors at the world level have invested incredible dedication and energy into preparing for this stage, supported by their family, friends, and colleagues.
Come experience this energy for yourself in person, or watch online via worldbaristachampionship.org, or on Naver in Korea. Full schedules, and all scores and other updates, will be updating live at worldbaristachampionship.org.
