Please tell us a little about yourself:

My name is Ali Wynn I am the 2018 Irish Brewers Cup Champion. I am a barista and training school director at Proper Order Coffee co. I’ve competed twice, placing second in 2017 and first in 2018. I am hoping to do well on the World stage.

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

2017 Irish Brewers Cup Championship – 2nd Place
2018 Irish Brewers Cup Championship – 1st Place

What are you excited to do while you are in Brazil?:

It will be my first time visiting Brazil so I am very excited in general. Hoping to use this opportunity to visit a coffee farm, which has always been a dream of mine.

What was your first amazing experience with coffee?:

Meeting my first coffee trainer. I had to do a Barista Course for my very first coffee job about 4 years ago, this is how I met this lady. Her passion and knowledge about coffee was incredible and very addictive. I left wanting to know more about the world of coffee that didn’t even exist to me before.

What is your favorite coffee brewing method and why?:

Hands down Kalita, for it’s consistent and clean brew every time.

What coffee-producing country most interests or excites you?:

Bolivia. Because it’s not going to produce coffee for much longer.

What are your interests outside of coffee?:

I like good food and beer. Ireland is going through a big change in it’s food culture at the moment. It is becoming so much more vibrant and creative, it is hard not to get excited about it.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?:

Working at Proper Order Coffee Co with my best partner in crime who happens to be it’s owner, Niall Wynn. We are a relatively young company with massive potential and many goals set ahead of us. I want to be one of many professionals who are going to drive it forward.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the competition?:

I would like to thank my husband and coach—Niall Wynn, I wouldn’t be where I am now without him. I would also like to thank the Irish coffee community, who have been very supportive and helpful.
