How did you get started in coffee?:

First through a friend who was very excited about Italian Espresso, though I had a feeling that there must be more behind it. I ended up in specialty coffee by applying for a part time job at Kaffee Alchemie – I learned to love it!

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

2015 Austrian Brewers Cup – 3rd Place
2016 Austrian Brewers Cup 2016 – 5th Place
2017 Austrian Brewers Cup – Disqualified for a technical error
2018 Austrian Brewers Cup – 1st Place
2018 Austrian Coffee in Good Spirits – 1st Place
Several Aeropress Championships, and Cup Tasting Championships.

What are you excited to do while you are in Brazil?:

To find some time to explore the country and it’s (coffee) places.

What was your first amazing experience with coffee?:

Maybe not the first but one of them: very busy day at the café, barely time for my own cup of coffee—we got this new coffee from Ethiopia in store which I hadn’t managed to try during the day. Just before closing I half-heartedly brewed myself a cup, and walked outside the door to take a break—it was a cold and wet day. I moved the cup towards my nose, and I had this coffee moment when suddenly I understood what people meant when they were talking about jasmine and florals in ethiopian coffees :)

Besides your own competition drink, do you have a favorite cocktail?:

V60—even extraction, clean cups.

What are your interests outside of coffee?:

Travel, books, plants, people, and my dog.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the competition?:

Laura, to make me apply for the job in the first place. Friends, colleagues and regular customers who are always very supportive, helpful, and motivating! John and Andi, for getting me into this whole thing from the very beginning! And for just being there, always!!
