The Good Cup Coffee Company

Please tell us a little about yourself:

Hi, I’m John. I love shoes, music, tattoos, and most of all, coffee. I spend all my time in my 2nd house which is our shop, the Good Cup Coffee Company. I’m a managing partner, roaster, and head barista. I usually make coffee first in the morning before getting a meal. It sounds crazy but it’s my daily routine. I spend most of my time researching green coffee quality, quality control, calibrations. I’m crazy about the quality of my coffee, that’s why I am very interested about sourcing, and I hope I can share more about it. I’m a huge fan of coffee and for me it is deeply ingrained in my life.

What are you excited to do in Boston?:

Firstly, I’m excited to meet the other champions from other countries, of course. Next, to taste really good coffee and look for coffee tools and equipment. Last but not least, I really want to see how beautiful the city is.

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

2014 Philippine Krispy Kreme Latteart Champion (cebu)
2014 Philippine Krispy Kreme Barista Cup – 2nd Place
2016 Cebu and Food Beverage Expo Latteart – 3rd Place
2017 Cebu and Food Beverage Expo Latteart – 3rd Place
2018 Philippine National Brewers Cup – 4th Place
2018 Sanremo Latteart Throwdown Champion
2019 Philippine National Brewers Cup Champion

How do you see the coffee industry changing in the future?:

For me no one can really predict what’s gonna happen in the future. In coffee, as long as we do our best to keep producing good quality sustainable green beans, continue developing roasts profiles that will result in a better quality and continue to improve our brewing skills and techniques, I would say that it will be a wonderful industry. The competitions will surely elevate the farmers higher and higher, continuing to produce lovely amazing coffees.

Where do you see yourself in five years?:

Roasting lovely coffees in my shop, I guess…haha. But in those 5 years I will surely do farm visits and continue to learn more and more

What are your interests outside of coffee?:

Hmmm…shoes, tattoos, travel, nature. I mean that’s called life. 😊

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WBrC?:

Yes, thanks to my partner, friend, and brother Gio Visitacion, for all the support. Thank you to team “Archers”—Frederick Bejo, Dave Peralta, and David Disuanco. Their company is in Dubai but they flew to Philippines for a Q-cupping tour event and helped my routine also.
