Please tell us a little about yourself:
I am Jian Han from South Korea. By day, I am a barista at Acme Coffee Solutions and by night I am a bartender at Keeper’s Bar. Both Acme Coffee Solutions and Keepers are located in Seoul, South Korea.
How did you get started in coffee?:
It was about seven or so years ago. I was not very skilled at drawing or painting but when I saw the cute hearts I could draw with my latte art, a creative spark was ignited within me. Ever since then I pursued my passion for coffee.
Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:
2019 Korea Coffee In Good Spirits Champion
What are you excited to do in Berlin?:
After my three performances, I want to get a souvenir for myself to remember Berlin. Preferably something big, shiny, and trophy-shaped.
What was your first amazing experience with coffee?:
My first amazing experience with coffee would have to be when I tried my first ristretto shot. I was shocked at how flavorful it was. I still enjoy drinking ristretto to this day.
Besides your own competition drink, do you have a favorite cocktail?:
I love Negronis. The Negroni is not only a cocktail that I can say that completely mastered, but it is also the first cocktail that I made. My Negronis have a distinct and fantastical taste to them.
What coffee-producing country interests or excites you most?:
Ethiopia – whenever I do a blind taste test I noticed that I tend to gravitate towards Ethiopian coffees.
What are your interests outside of coffee?:
Bartending
Where do you see yourself in five years?:
I think that I would be able to give a clearer answer after the results of this competition are revealed.
Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the WCIGS?:
I have way too many people that I would like to thank. Everyday I feel that I am indebted to more and more people. I want to become a greater person so that I can repay all the help that I received when everything is said and done.
