Please tell us a little about yourself:

Hi, I’m Anouk, 32 years old and I’m the Dutch latte art champion of 2018. As a freelance Barista I really enjoy working in different environments, each time giving customers the best coffee experience possible. Latte art is a big help in engaging my customers. Next to line in coffee, traveling is a big passion of mine. If it’s trying an egg coffee on the streets of Vietnam or a beautiful filter in my hometown Rotterdam, great experiences are everywhere!

How did you get started in coffee?:

Graphic designing my way trough the 2000’s I met Esther Maasdam (My coach and owner of Manhattan coffee roasters) at a party. We started talking coffee, and I got inspired. Shortly afterwards I started working as a freelance barista in the Netherlands. After getting the basic skills I wanted to improve myself and went to Melbourne, Australia. Six months of elbow grease got me the confidence to start competing.

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

Entree Best Barista Championship 2016 – 3rd Place
Dutch Latte Art 2018 – 1st Place

What are you excited to do while you are in Brazil?:

Meeting more baristas from all over the world and visiting some coffee farms.

What is the most unusual vessel you have poured latte art into?:

The lid of a milk carton.

What is your secret to making great latte art?:

Just be happy and love what you’re doing.

Is there anyone you would like to thank or recognize, or who helped you to prepare for the competition?:

First of all I’d like to thank Esther Maasdam and Ben Morrow from Manhattan Coffee Roasters. I wouldn’t be here without their time and faith in me. Gonny Ellermann for her lovely drawings and support. Friends, family and all people that supported me over this adventurous year in coffee.
