Please tell us a little about yourself:

My name is Alessandro Galtieri, I am an independent Barista.

I started many years ago, in 1994 in the cafeteria that I still run with my wife Cristina, in Bologna: Aroma. I’m an SCA member since 2005, SCA trainer for the Barista and Brewers modules. I’m also involved in the SCA Brew Crew, to improve the level of the educational Brewers module of the Coffee Skills Program. I’ve always had a great dedication to my profession, improving over the years the quality of the coffees served, the equipment and my skills to offer my customers simply the best.
The best of what specialty coffee can give is a better quality of the supply chain, different ways to process, to roast, and to brew coffee; treating it for what it really is, a product of far greater value than most people think. On my path of growth and professional qualifications, the competition experience was still missing, so I got involved and….here I am!

How did you get started in coffee?:

Many, many, many years ago. I was looking for a job giving me a salary, but it has become my passion and my daily pleasure.

Please list the coffee competitions you have participated in, what year they took place, and your results:

2018 Selection For Italian Championships, Modica – 1st Place
2018 Italian Brewers Cup Championships – 1st Place

What are you excited to do while you are in Brazil?:

I can only think about the competition….. so I want to do my best, enjoy the experience and have fun!

What was your first amazing experience with coffee?:

In 1996 I tasted my first single origin coffee in espresso: it was a Sidamo. I never thought it was possible to find this flavours in an espresso cup. Everything changed: I started my new path, searching for the best coffees with the aim to share those stunning flavour with my customers.

What is your favorite coffee brewing method and why?:

V60 for sure! The one I use to brew the most refined coffees with a complete control of temperature and brewing time, obtaining a clean cup because of the filter, and ….. very important………the right quantity to share with one person while having a relaxing moment.

What coffee-producing country most interests or excites you?:

I want to taste it all!

What are your interests outside of coffee?:

Oh…. is there something other than coffee??? 🙂  I like films, gourmet restaurants, great cocktails… and a quiet bungalow facing the sea.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?:

I will tell you ….. after the Competition 🙂
