DUBLIN, IRELAND (Friday, March 1, 2013) – World Coffee Events (WCE) announces the SCAE Chapter in Turkey will host the 2013 Cezve/Ibrik Championship. The WCE’s role in planning the 2013 competition will be advisory.

“We are honored to accept the SCAE Chapter in Turkey’s proposal to host the 2013 Event. We are committed to supporting the program through joint promotion and advisory services. We will continue to recognize any of the national competition events on our website and maintain up to date information about the competition” states Cindy Ludviksen, WCE Managing Director.

The Cezve/Ibrik tradition of brewing coffee is a mainstay method of brewing coffee in several countries around the world. The WCE is very open to producing this event again in the future; however, we feel strongly that by placing the focus and attention back on the level of national interest will help to grow the program and audience interest organically.

The SCAE Chapter in Turkey is open to receiving support from the broader specialty coffee community. “We are pleased to have this opportunity, and we look forward to producing a world class event in eastern Europe,” comments “Ayşin AYDOĞDU, the SCAE Coordinator in Turkey. The event location and dates are to be determined. If you are interested in learning more about the program or ways you can become more involved, please contact info@worldcoffeeevents.org.

About the Cezve/Ibrik Championship:

This event showcases the Cezve or Ibrik preparation of brewing coffee, set in a competition format which celebrates the cultural tradition. In this championship it is encouraged the competitors bring their own style/cultural element to their performance to showcase what is one of the oldest forms of preparing coffee. www.ibrikchampionship.org

About the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE):

The events will be hosted by the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE), the largest dedicated coffee event to ever take place on Australian soil. The two international championships will be held at MICE May 2013 at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds.

“Melbourne has recently emerged as having one of the most vibrant specialty coffee scenes in the world, and as such will prove the ideal host for these world-class events,” says Clint Hendry, MICE Show Director. “The nation’s coffee industry came together to support this bid, and we’ll come together again to host the 2013 event as the best World Barista Championships to date. We know this is our chance to show the world what the country’s coffee scene is all about.”

The World Barista Championships is the world’s most prestigious barista competition, welcoming participants from over 50 countries who have won regional and national-level competitions to represent their domestic coffee talent on the world stage.

“Participants from across Australia have been enthusiastic, longtime supporters of the World Barista Championship and our other coffee competitions,” commented Cindy Ludviksen, managing director of WCE. “We are excited to welcome the global coffee community to join us next year for a taste of Melbourne’s amazing coffee culture.”

MICE is owned by Prime Creative Media, a specialist marketing and event management company who publish BeanScene Magazine and Global Coffee Review. The inaugural MICE event in 2012 welcomed over 7000 Australian and international visitors. One hundred exhibitors took part in the three-day event, representing a rich cross-section of the Australasian coffee industry. The event also hosted the Australasian Specialty Coffee Association (AASCA) Coffee Championships. AASCA supported the bid to host the 2013 event, and were a key player in ensuring the success of the inaugural MICE.

“Hosting the event in Melbourne will be of benefit to the coffee industry as a whole,” says Craig Dickson, President of AASCA. “Our baristas have flourished on the global coffee scene, regularly placing among the best in the world. By hosting the world’s most prestigious coffee competition, we’re proud to provide a location that truly celebrates coffee in its many incarnations.”

In supporting AASCA and other industry initiatives, Prime Creative Media have played a significant role in raising the quality standards and expectations for media platforms and events that support the industry. Recognised for a commitment to high quality production values and event execution, Prime Creative Media will ensure that the 2013 World Barista Championship and World Brewers Cup will be an outstanding experience for the global coffee community. Melbourne will be ready to host both events and showcase the very best coffee experiences available in the city.

In welcoming World Coffee Events competitions to the Australasian region for the first time in history, the 2013 event is set to be a milestone, and is expected to attract a record number of visitors from all over the world. Exhibition spaces are expected to sell out sooner than in 2012. A limited number of exhibition and sponsorship opportunities are available, and interested parties can Contact MICE Show Director Clint Hendry on clint.hendry@cogadvertising.com.au or +61 425 699 891 re these or for additional media comments and interviews .
