Cynthia Chang Ludviksen
Cynthia Chang Ludviksen was born in Keelung, Taiwan and raised in the Mid-West of the United States. Her start in the coffee industry began with a position as a barista 1993, soon after, her fascination with the coffee industry grew into a passionate hobby and dedicated career. In 1998, she joined Counter Culture Coffee, where she further developed her interests and focus in sustainable coffee, business management, education, and specialty coffee promotion. Cynthia has dedicated a number of volunteer hours on projects with the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), serving at times as an instructor and committee member. She became the Regional Coordinator of the Americas for the World Barista Championship (WBC) in 2005 and joined the organization’s board of directors in 2007. Cynthia was appointed as the Executive Director of the WBC in 2009, and later, Managing Director or World Coffee Events (WCE) in 2011.
Director of Business Development
Laura Lee was born and raised in Southern California. She graduated with a B.A. in English Literature from UC Berkeley in 2006. She has since then been working in event planning and business development. Most recently, Laura worked as Director of Business Development for the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA). She is the primary contact for all sponsorship, advertising and event promotional materials.
Laura has never met a stranger and can talk about any number of subjects at great length. She enjoys a nice long marathon to pass the time and thrives on relationship building.
Jamie grew up in the South West of England before going on to graduate from Oxford Brookes University with a BA honours in Accounting and Finance. She relocated to London where she started her career in Business Development and Communications. Since then, spending time working abroad in New York, Melbourne and Vancouver, Jamie has continued to expand her experience in international business. First training as a Barista in Vancouver, she was hook on the coffee industry. Joining WCE in 2012 in sales and marketing, Jamie moved into a partnership role building relationships and account management with WCE and enjoying even more the people that make the coffee community!
National Bodies Coordinator
Roukiat Delrue, with a degree in Business, specializing in International Business, has a longstanding history in the coffee industry, lasting 10 years. She is originally from Belgium, and currently resides in Guatemala. She is a certified Q Grader and Q Instructor, as well as R Grader and R Instructor. She is a WCE Certified Judge, and Head Judge. She has been on staff and a regular consultant for the Coffee Quality Institute. Among her other consulting jobs in the coffee industry, Roukiat also serves as the WCE National Bodies Manager. She is WCE’s liaison to our diverse and growing community of national bodies, spanning over 70 countries!
Shelby’s relationship with the specialty coffee industry spans nearly two decades, always in the event planning capacity. She has enjoyed working on or at nearly every SCAA Event since 1994. Prior to joining World Coffee Events, Shelby was the Events Manager for a high tech firm in the manufacturing industry. As Event Manager for World Coffee Events, she looks forward to working with a stellar team of coffee professionals to grow its reputation as THE resource for global coffee events.
Shelby lives in Camarillo, California with her two amazing kids and weekends will find her on a hike, at a soccer game or relaxing in salt cave. Most importantly, Shelby believes that attitude is everything – it’s pretty hard to ruffle her feathers.
Matthew was born and raised in the greater Los Angeles area, moving incrementally northward to settle in Portland, Oregon. Not long before graduating with a BA in linguistics from UC Santa Cruz, Matthew, already a home coffee enthusiast, decided that his heart and his profession belonged in coffee. As Competitions Manager, Matthew is energized and inspired by the vibrant, multifaceted global coffee community.
Matthew questions everything but tolerates more than you might think. He is equally comfortable being active outdoors, or reading indoors with his two cats looking on. His earliest memories are in the kitchen, and his epitaph will read “No Big Whoop.”
Amy Ball was born and raised in various cities throughout southern and central California. After graduating with a degree in English Literature from the University of Washington, Amy spent a year living in Hawaii, where she began her career in coffee. She returned to Los Angeles, and spent thirteen years with Starbucks, working her way up from barista to district manager. The last five years of that career were spent leading a district of twelve stores and developing store managers. She was the designated Community Lead and “Fun Boss” for the region. Most recently, Amy has transitioned into a career of project management and writing. She has penned two films, two pilots and a novel. She is thrilled to be working with WCE and excited to help coordinate programs. She is an avid reader, and a lover of the outdoors. When she’s not reading, you can find Amy climbing up a rock face, hiking up a mountain or snowboarding.
Irene’s introduction to World Coffee Events Limited comes via working with Marco Beverage Systems Limited with whom Irene has worked since 2009. Irene lives and works in Dublin. While relatively new to the world of coffee, Irene qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland in 1985. Having trained with Ernst & Young, Irene then worked with E&Y Toronto for 3 years. Since returning to Dublin, in addition to working in Practice, Irene has worked with a number of private Irish companies. As well as a B.A. in Economics and a Higher Diploma in Psychology from University College Dublin, Irene holds an M.Sc. in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from Trinity College Dublin.”
