World Coffee Events Announces the World Coffee Roasting Championship
DUBLIN, IRELAND (December 26, 2011) – World Coffee Events (WCE) is pleased to announce the World Coffee Roasting Championship, a competitive event designed to feature the talent and skill of the dedicated men and women involved in the artisanal craft of roasting specialty coffee.
Competitors in the new three-stage event will be evaluated on their performance evaluating the quality of green coffee (coffee grading), developing a roasting profile that best accentuates the desirable characteristics of that coffee and on the ultimate cup quality of coffees roasted.
An introduction to the new competition format will be staged at the World of Coffee event from June 12-15, 2012 in Vienna, Austria, alongside the World Barista Championship, World Brewers Cup, World Cup Tasters and Cezve/Ibrik Championships.
“This competition is a great way to feature both the science and craft behind the roasting process,” says Trish Rothgeb, a veteran coffee roaster who participated on the event’s development team.
The first World Coffee Roasting Championship will be held in 2013 at a location to be announced. Official rules and regulations will be posted to the event’s website at http://www.worldcoffeeroasting.com.
